Gender Differences
I got coffee with a friend the other day and we were talking about photography (it’s all I talk about, really…). I was showing him some of the designs I received from a graphic designer. He pointed out that I should hire a female designer instead. According to him, women make things softer and gentler when it comes to design and photography. It seemed like a silly generalization and it probably is… but I began to realize just how TRUE it was.
For example… this was one of the logos that the male designer gave me.
I don’t like it at all. It’s going in the opposite direction of what I wanted. Too stiff and professional.. it looks like a real estate company!
Another example is noticing how a lot of my guy friends edit their photos. Lots of contrast. Here’s Arianna from my friend’s perspective:
And my perspective:
BIG difference!!

Haha I tend to amp up my contrast and color on my work as well, maybe it is true. I just like seeing things more defined as oppose to a softer feeling hmm
I do like the fern idea for a logo, though… maybe that’s just my maleness
.
I wonder WHY men/women often tend to have these differences in design.
my designer is great, very reasonable prices too.

I tend to up the contrast too… but that’s because the majority of my shots need to look sharp and turning up the contrast and blacks fakes that a bit. >> I have another male friend who does softer/tender post, so.. I guess there are outliers too
i didn’t think it looked like a real estate logo. until you said it. you’re current logo (font?) seems more feminine. never thought about the gender differences but its probably true in some cases.
i knew people had different taste, but i never thought of it to be due to gender differences. interesting!
These are really awesome!
@wingtrung - haha then you are further evidence of this theory!
@Axis_of_Doom - It’s a nice logo.. but not what I’m looking for, unfortunately.
@oxyGENE_08 - lol I only took the last photo.
@onlyjustbegun - Still awesome
